Speaking of supporting actual-existing soldiers, Brandon at VetVoice does the Lord's work:
Six U.S. Senators maintained their refusal to support the troops by voting against the new GI Bill yesterday. One refused to support the troops by simply not voting. ...
John McCain did not vote on the bill, thus proving, once again, that he is unwilling to support America's troops and veterans when they need it most.

I’ve struggled to find the right way to say this because I don’t want my outrage over it to come across as callousness towards soldiers, but here goes: Republicans love theoretical troops - the ones they can rhapsodize about serving so splendidly and heroically, stoically advancing the cause of Freedom and enduring privation with a hardened dismissiveness.
Real soldiers are a problem though, because they sometimes get injured and need long term medical care, or get mentally ground to dust under repeated deployments, or have spouses and kids that they try to keep integrated with while living in a war zone, or have trouble making ends meet, or have aspirations for lives after military service. In short, for Republicans actual soldiers are a pain in the ass.
damps - AMEN!
Republicans also love theoritical, potential children more than they love actual living children who need food, clothing, love and EDUCATION.
