My guess is that Obama/Clinton are intentionally playing up this vetting drama to work in the favor of Hillary’s future political career. If she wants to run in 2016 or maybe the VP nod in 2012 if Biden steps aside, this will come up again. Instead, if she can point back to 2008 and say, “Remember how intense Obama’s vetting process was? How he required everyone to submit their stepmother’s Facebook profile? He picked Bill and my records clean and didn’t find anything to be concerned about. This is a total non-issue.”

Sexing up the Obama/Clinton vetting drama now can help mitigate potential damage caused by Bill’s associations in the future. Making a big deal out of getting access to the CGI records and vetting them now will also make it easier to convince the Senate that everything’s kosher. However, you’re kidding yourself if you’re really worried about a Senator who’s rather popular with her colleagues, popular abroad, and more than qualified getting caught up in confirmation. Her confirmation will be a formality; she might get a prickly question or two during her hearing, but that’ll be the full extent of the opposition.

This is coming from someone who absolutely loathed the Clintons’ behavior (and mocked their ineptitude) throughout the primaries. She’s a fantastic pick and if you read between the lines, leaked drama regarding the Obama/Clinton negotiations is totally benign and could actually play in both parties’ favor.
