Oh look. It’s the Yid Gestapo.
Joe Klein, in a column supporting the surge, mentioned
a great many Jewish neoconservatives–people like Joe Lieberman and the crowd over at Commentary–[who] plumped for this war, and now for an even more foolish assault on Iran, raised the question of divided loyalties: using U.S. military power, U.S. lives and money, to make the world safe for Israel.
In response, the Anti-Defamation League wrote that Klein’s line was "reminiscent of age-old anti-Semitic canards about a Jewish conspiracy to control and manipulate government," which is self-evidently ludicrous and hysterical. His very next sentence was about the profit-motive tendencies of oilmen Bush and Cheney — the Gentiles he clearly recognizes are responsible for the war. I miss the days when the neocons were saying that was off-limits for public discussion!
Look, I’ve been a Jew my whole life long, and a Zionist for much of that. I’ve worked at The New Republic. I’ve heard neocons give some real talk — with some alcohol or marijuana in them, even — about the Israel we all know and love. And this is what American Jews who care about foreign policy talk about: whether shit is good for both America and Israel. Sometimes, people in power care a lot about whether shit is good for Israel especially, even if, in the neocon case, they’re too fucking stupid to recognize that the policies they endorse because seeing dead Arabs makes them feel larger than their four-and-a-half inches is what will lead to the end of a Jewish democracy. In other words, nothing Klein said is remotely even controversial, and the ADL knows it, and so do these shtetl-tards at Commentary who are all up on Klein’s ass. What they want is for public discussion of American foreign policy to be more intellectually dishonest, more euphemistic, more fearful. They want this because it’s the only way they can win an argument now that everything they believe has been decisively refuted.
Some people, Rancid once sang, are poison. They cry antisemitism cynically and then have the nerve to bitch about other peoples’ identity politics. To tweak a Fugazi lyric, You’d make a great Capo. You’re an embarrassment, a shonda, a joke, and also your writing blows. You know what’s bad for the Jews? You, motherfucker. Good Shabbos!

Good post. No subject gets me more hate mail than when I tackle this one.
That needs to be on a bumper sticker or something.
Mr. Ackerman, please don’t hold back.
But what do you really think?
I know you’re new as a part of the Firedoglake community, but you really need to learn not to hold back.
I’ve been beaten to the punch . . . line.
without explaining who i’ve known and where i come from, i wanna say—-
well, since we’re allowed to be inflammatory, i’ve ALWAYS wondered, wouldn’t it have been cheaper to just buy another country?
I hope this is not a controversial statement….I’m tired of Americans dying for Israel. It’s not that I don’t feel for the people of Israel. I do. I just think the people of Israel are also feeling the same way I am but are maybe fearful of making a stink about it to their own government, and that’s why nothing ever changes.
forgot to add to my comment the last sentence-
cuz israel is pretty expensive.
kay, i left you the firedoglake flicker group addy in the last thread……….
Thanks Dmac! I appreciate it.
Yow!
Welcome aboard.
I dig your syntax and content the most.
And please….
Tell us what you really think.
I like it!
Maybe I’ll have a Tee-Shirt made.
Further proof that America and Isreal shouldn’t mix /s:

Bil Clinton is tone deaf in more ways than one. Imagine that.
Oy Vey!
Shorter Alan Dershowitz: “I’m right and if you disagree with anything I say you’re antisemitic.”
Great dialogue stopper.
It’s all the fault of da Joes.
;>)
Excellent post, by the way, Mr Ackerman.
holy cow. i have no idea why i haven’t been Ackerman devotedly all these years. reminds me of jane circa 2006. glad to see RBG here, i have a feeling the mods are going to have their work cut out for them tonight.

A classic DB!
new eli thread upstairs
We got Eli with fresh meat up above…
More like a relic db, truth be told.
;>)
If we don’t sell lots of military arms to Israel what are they gonna do?
Buy from Russians and Chinese?
They’re facing their own “cold war” mentality and the public are being manipulated by the arms sellers just as we were here in the good ‘ol USA.
Add on top of that the fact there was a Holocaust and that a lot of people who live near them believe their country is just stolen land and it’s a very complicated mess.
In steps Bush & Co and it becomes mega-huge-ginormous awful complicated.
Where does this leave America? We’re just dragged around like a really big weapon to do the bidding of Bushies, neocons, and the MIC. Lovely.
Let’s restore some sanity to American foreign policy and continue trying to find a sensible acceptable solution to the Israeli ‘foreign policy’ problem. Send Condi Rice. She’ll take care of everything. heh.
There were / are over 7000 lobbyists advocating for Israel on Capitol hill.
They are pushing the government to support a nation which discriminates and has now oppressed horribly the indigenous population.
Israels is a disgrace, the way it behaves. It won’t declare borders and is expanding into territory which does not belong to her and build settlements on them.
I used to thing of Israel as a democracy among despotic Arab governments. I know longer do. It’s another fascist one among despotic ones.
The whole region is full of women hating religious fanatics which we need to completely disengage from.
gee, attackerman, guess you weren’t inflammatory enough……../s
so much ammunition, so little firing went on…….dunno…..did my best to get into the spirit.
i really would like to know if the u.s. would have been better off to buy another country………considering everything involved with israel…….the liabilities and the cost…….
and sorry i don’t have it, my browser quit before i marked it, and i can’t remember which thread, day or two ago, it was an aipac link that listed all reps and sens with dual citizenship and others with links to aipac……interesting. shocked me a little.
Like America’s now turned failure at democracy, Israel has become a similar failure and like America, a militaristic aggressor in the region who seeks to intimidate and dominate based on the “excuse” that her neighbors would destroy her if she didn’t.
I don’t buy that. But like the failed US policy of aggression which generates animus where ever we send our troops and corporations, Israel sees the world through the same “they’re out to ge us, so we need to strike them down first” approach.
We’ve pumped trillions in military arms into Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the whole region, even Iran during the Shah. It may be blood money to keep the oil flowing. Who knows?
But it looks like Israel and the US are going to strike Iran now.
Chertoff is an Israeli Citizen and Wolvie’s girlfriend I believe was one too. The pro Israel lobby has hijacked this country’s foreign policy. It’s pretty disgusting and all the pols suck up to AIPAC and dance for them like puppets on a string.
Great fuckin’ work, Spencer.
Glad you’re at the Lake.
(((Southern Dragon)))
Welcome Spencer! I never thought I would find it so enjoyable to see someone sticking up for Joe Klein.
I guess I need to brush up on my Yiddish!
Like the take no prisoners approach. I enjoy fevered writing.
the
is our own creation because we refuse to face the issues with integrity resorting instead to misrepresentations and mythologisations. There were at least 20m people who perished under the nazis – 14m of them were not jews.
I’ve also been a Jew your whole life, and an anti-Zionist longer than that, but what’s that got to do with enjoying an occasional foolish assault on the disgusting regime running Iran?
Thanks Spencer. Well written, cognitive, and darkly funny. I like.
Open criticism and scorn of Israel seems to be a trend lately. Even here at the Lake. The public outing of AIPAC by Mearshimer and Walt may have had affected the public’s image of Israel. Israel is an aparthied State, and the sooner the Israelis and the rest of the world recognize that, the better for the Middle East. This site may soon be pilloried by the Anti Defamation league as being a source for antisemitic discourse.
PS Cut way back on the Yiddish. Whatever color you are, dont be calling anyone n%%%%%
Just didn’t give him enough time at the top. We’ll give him more in the future.
Or maybe the Purple Gang.
Nobody likes me.
Israel’s blockade of Gaza is ccriminal and genocidal. The Palestinian plight is the result of the same kind of hatred that led to the holocaust under Hitler. The horrors of the holocaust do not justify the present evil perpetrated by Israel.
The United States is the most evil nation in the world right now. We have created more evil with our foreign and domestic policies than any other current government. There is nothing anti-americanism is stating this, and there is no anti-semitism in criticizing the government of Israel. It is truly sad that every Democratic presidential candidate has to stand before AIPAC and pledge militry support for a government that justifies a continuing persecution of so many people.
Of course, when former President Jimmy Carter calls the behavior of the Israeli government “apartheid,” there is a quick response of anti-semitism. There will be possibility of justice as long as truth is hidden behind the weak-willed politicians that have allowed the USA to sink to such depths.
Thanks for speaking up.
When the American venture in the Middle East goes sour, as it surely will within 15 years, someone here will find it politically profitable to blame the Jews for it, and there will be similacrum of proof for it. In fifteen years the children and nieces and nephews of holocaust victims and survivors will be dead; that memory will of course survive, but it wll survive as literature, not living memory. Let’s hope that American civil liberties, which people like Chertoff are working hard to dismantle, will still be strong enough to defend his descendants when the storm comes, as it surely will. It’s FUBAR beyond belief what’s happening.
