Laura Rozen does some reporting on Israel’s anxiety about Iran and Washington’s reluctance to greenlight an attack. Among her findings: David Wurmser, until recently one of Cheney’s Angels, believes there’s a fairly significant chance of Israel going after Iran before the Bush administration ends. Laura has for years been skeptical of such a thing happening, so I infer that her reporting this means she considers it significant.
“Even beyond the question of whether McCain or Obama wins, the Israelis are afraid that no new administration is really going to be able to get its act together quickly to be able to mobilize a plan and do something,” Wurmser said.
Wurmser put the odds of Israel striking Iran before Bush leaves office at “slightly, slightly above fifty/fifty.”

Maybe some preemptive comments from Capitol Hill that a (illegal under the UN charter) preemptive Israeli attack on Iran before Jan. 20th would lead to a ‘comprehensive review’ of US funding for Israel in the new administration.
