Everyone caught Jane’s excellent Bloggingheads episode with Bruce Fein, right? Because it was excellent.
To be sentimental for a second, as the new guy here: I’m so in awe of Jane Hamsher. Look at what she built out of a hobby. Look at the amount of impact she’s had, from Plame to Libby to FISA. Look at how indomitable she is when under attack. I aspire to her fearlessness, her candor and her decency. The life she’s lived so far is a template for the one I’d like to have. I love this quote she gave to the New Haven Independent:
When she talks about how she broke into writing covering both politics and punk rock for the alternative San Francisco Bay Guardian in the late ’70s, it all makes sense. Blogging, she said, is the “new punk.” Anyone can do it. Anyone can plug in, make some noise, make a difference, and just blast away with an unceasing cascade of crescendoes.
Always remember: we can be the bands we want to hear. Always remember: let fury have the hour, anger can be power, d’you know that you can use it? Always remember: If you think I’m ever backing down or ever giving in, then you’ve got it all wrong, no you’ve got it all wrong, you’ve got it fucking wrong. Jane shows us the way. Happy birthday.

Happy birthday, Jane. Spencer speaks for many of us.
yup. totally.
Blogging is so punk rock. Or so hardcore, to be more precise. early 80s hardcore, not that jock rock stuff.
Bootlicker
And you probably want to lick her boots. Admit it!!
Er…. what impact ?
IIRC she published around 480000 articles detailing every actual and non-development in the Plame case, had as many theories about it from every conceivable angle and in the end, this counted for nothing. Just wasted space that was more entertainment writing than fact.
Likewise, what impact with FISA ? End result was the party with which any influence would have been had actually flipped to the hardline GOP position and passed (in 2008 mind you) something that belonged nowhere outside of 2002-scared-shitless-PATRIOT-Act territory. Was that the impact we were hoping for or is there really nothing to claim here (or that you should want to) ?
Then again, that didn’t stop anyone doing so in the wake of the 2006 elections did it. When democrats won every seat apart from the candidate she campaigned for, which actually resulted in the democrats missing out on a senate majority, I saw her claim influence over the election results for all seats.
The contemporary visual embodiment of this results vs portrayal trend would be Obama missing that 3pointer then turning to the crowd to pump his fists in the air.
Sorry, that was supposed to say:
“she published around 480000 articles detailing every actual and non-development in the Plame case at least 5 times each”
Damn.. look what the cat dragged in.. Kilo must have been turned down for a prom date by Jane back in the day or something.
Allow me to say Scooter Libby was convicted and Joe Lieberman is not a Democratic Super Delegate.
Happy B-day, Jane. Rock on!
“Allow me to say Scooter Libby was convicted and Joe Lieberman is not a Democratic Super Delegate.”
No kidding. Unless you forgot to also suggest Libby’s lying to a jury and subsequent perjury+ conviction was in any way related to Jane’s writings, you don’t appear to have any disagreement with what I wrote.
