DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pvt. Janelle F. King, 23, of Merced, Calif., died Aug. 14 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident. She was assigned to the 115th Combat Support Hospital, Fort Polk, La.

The incident is under investigation.

I fear that in a case like this, a female soldier who dies of non-combat causes, there’s gender-based foul play involved. I hope it’s not the case, but it’s the first thing I thought of.
