DENVER, Colo. — Tea-leavery is beginning to brew into a McCain-Lieberman ticket. Apparently the ticket will be announced after… Shabbos. Coincidence? Sure, why not.

But if it is, I want to be super-serious and on record as saying that a McCain-Lieberman ticket would be a major, major threat to Obama-Biden. Totally major. More dangerous than anyone else the GOP could nominate. It would totally depress the left’s fundraising and enthusiasm levels and super-charge the Republican base in a way never before seen. Democrats would defect in record numbers owing to the enduring emotional connections that the beloved Joe Lieberman commands. The money would pour in from the well-heeled precincts of the right, and especially from social conservatives who are ready for the kind of leadership only Lieberman can provide. He would absolutely crush Joe Biden in a debate. As a representative of Big Progressivism, I’m begging you, John McCain: Please, please, please do not pick Joe Lieberman. Please.
