Finally, the career advice I’ve been waiting for: Drink more.
The NYT Freakonomics blog has an interesting post about the positive effect that binge drinking has on the Social Security system. (Weird, I know. Check it out here.)
Not only is binge drinking good for the Social Security system but, here’s the really good news, the report finds that people that have 2 or fewer drinks per day earn more than people that don’t drink. (And here I was assuming that I’d have to invest in more education to raise my earning potential.)

I suppose HIV prevention has the same lovely effect: bankrupting social security sooner. I do wonder if the study’s authors factored in the cost of disability payments before death for the binge drinkers as they fought off cirrhosis and liver cancer; these also would come from the Social Security trust fund, but probably wouldn’t last as long as the drinker’s foregone retirement benefit.
