Yeah, I saw that last night on Jack and Jill and cried for nearly an hour. It’s what I imagine my grandmother’s reaction would be. This video makes me wildly hopeful (heh) for an Obama win, but way down deep in the small racially paranoid part of my soul, there’s a nasty little gremlin that whines that America will never ever ever EVER elect a black man, and he makes me — MAKES ME — arm myself for disappointment. That’s no doubt the product of knowing more about this gentleman’s world than do the “young folks” he speaks of. He’s gracious and heartbroken about his wife (OMG **sniff**) so he doesn’t bring it up but I suspect that we’ve seen things that we can’t for the life of us surrender. I have, anyway.

I rarely listen to the gremlin. He’s right. Young folks are our future.
