Somehow I don’t think Rahm Emanuel and his two Israeli tank corps brothers are going to allow that.
He’s not comparing these initiatives to the Freikorps, a pre-Nazi era paramilitary movement somewhat akin to the Patriot militias that flourished in the 90s and are likely to see a resurgence, as Neiwert has suggested previous. He’s comparing these voluntary community service initiatives to forced labor in concentration camps, where “arbeit macht frei” was an officially posted slogan.
But it’s still exceptionally offensive.
