So here’s how I missed seeing the Clipse’s in-store appearance at Commonwealth — the clothing shop under my gym, not the restaurant I’ll be at tonight — yesterday. The place was hosting a launch party for the new Clipse mixtape and what I gather was some sort of new-seasonal-line release from Play Cloths, their fashion company. I showed up about an hour after it started, alone because Kriston decided to go the extra mile for his graduate students — seriously? they wouldn’t have appreciated a half-day? — and stood outside in the freezing cold on a line practically to U Street while not a single person left the shop. Inside people were drinking Skyy vodka and taking cellphone pictures of Pusha and Mal, who, I was told earlier in the day, were there to hobnob and not perform. I waited 15 minutes and said fuck it.
