For those progressives worried about getting jobs in Hillary Clinton’s State Dept., this AP story must come as very welcome news:
As Secretary of State-pick Hillary Rodham Clinton and U.N. envoy-choice Susan Rice separately visited the diplomatic agency’s headquarters in Washington’s Foggy Bottom neighborhood, persons familiar with the transition said that Rice wants to install her own transition team inside the department.
Such a move by an incoming U.N. ambassador is rare, if not unprecedented, because the job is based at the United Nations in New York, where Rice already has a small transition staff, the sources familiar with the incoming administration.
The push by Rice, an early Obama supporter whose position the President-elect wants to elevate to a cabinet post, is also a signal that she intends to use her influence with the new president to play a more significant role than previous U.N. envoys, they said. The transition sources spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.
I’m not sure who’s on that team and have an inquiry out. And I should of course say I have no idea if this story is, you know, true. (All this comes via Megan Carpentier and Jason Linkins.)

I WAS a big supporter of the UN
Then I looked at the UNresults
The UN is unable to do anything except spend huge quantities of money and UNfortunately it is OUR money that they prefer spending, it is UNlikely that it will change, wether the post is raised up to the cabinet level or not.
But i read that they serve great eats from around the world, as a cabinet level rep would she get to go to more of these extravaganzas?
Hans Blix and the UN did their damnedest to prevent the US from invading Iraq because of the WMD pretense. I know they didn’t succeed, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.
Well, darn good they did not, sooner or later Iraq will be a healthy nation.
As far as changing history to think that we thought that WMD did not exist – well most everyone did and with a regime that held its participants to such high levels of terror – not a surprise that we had bad intel. It is also intel that he wished us tom have, well maybe not us but at least his neighbors, you know the Iranians who he went to war with and killed how many – oh yeah – how about the other neighbors – the Kuwaitis
His PR worked, everyone was sure he had it.
I guess you think we are supposed to forget that Sadaam used, i mean did not just have but USED chemical warfare against his own people! How many Kurds did he KILL with them.
Also seems to me that Clinton did a good job of downsizing the CIA to help with the ability to gather good intel.
