This is from a U.S. District court filing from Dick Cheney’s office:
”The vice president alone may determine what constitutes vice presidential records or personal records, how his records will be created, maintained, managed and disposed, and are all actions that are committed to his discretion by law…"
I’m not a lawyer, but I’m sure the legal grounds for such a contention are as sound as those previously employed by Cheney lawyer David Addington for such run-of-the-mill executive-branch behavior as warrantless surveillance, torture, and indefinite detention. Oh, wait, Cheney is his own branch of government.
Charlie Homans is right: the vice president’s office and residence needs to be treated like crime scenes. Cordon it off with yellow tape and make the Cheneys get a room at a Red Roof Inn until it’s secured. Dick Cheney has proven for eight years that he will stop at nothing to avoid accountability. This is the public-disclosure version of shooting an old man in the face.

He use a similar approach with the Energy Task Force documents.
Got away with it, ultimately.
Big Dick will probably get away with this one too.
I like the idea of a crime-scene tapeoff, a lot. But preceded by a mid-night raid of his office (along with his famous safe), home, car, storage lockers, the undisclosed location, and anywhere else he hangs (Jackson Hole? – which maybe needs a rename to Cheney’s Hole).
Then, put him on an unmarked jet – on the ground – and tell him that his family is very nice….(it would be terrible if somethign happened to them) and that his next stop if he doesn’t fess up on the location of ALL the documents is some nice rendition site where the family and Addington will be joining him until this gets ‘resolved’. Remind him of the golden rule that will be applied.
If that doesn’t work, some Sharia Law action that is applied to thiefs is the next step – making sure that its the hand that doesn’t wipe his ass that goes.
In an entire lifetime, Cheney’s the only person that I can say I truly hate for a lifetime of his service.
Of course he’ll get away with this. It’s obvious.
Red Roof Inn is too good for the bastard.
