Look, the Yankees are the richest team in baseball, and they pay a hefty hefty luxury tax. What do you want them to do with their money? Not make it? Not spend it?

Teixeira doesn’t block any prospects. The Yankees have a huge hole at 1st. He’ll see pitches to hit because he’ll bat in front of A-Rod. I just don’t see how bitching about this deal is anything other than petulance. It’s a deal that makes plenty of sense for the Yankees.

They’re betting that there’s less variance in the demand for Yankees tickets than there is for other teams, which matches my intuition. Plus, the return of the Evil Empire ™ should drive up attendance for Yankees games across the country, which is good for the sport as a whole.

You want something to complain about? Let’s talk about the stadium financing, because that stinks to high heaven.

So how does A-Rod winning the MVP detract from winning the championship? It seems that the fault would lie elsewhere and the Yankees have rather dramatically improved the elsewhere.
I would bet that the Yankees win one, maybe two championships in the next three years.

Except the purpose is to win the championship not to win the MVP.

Pitchers generally do not make it through 5 and 7 year contracts unscathed. It seems that Baseball GMs forget that lesson no matter how many times it gets taught. There have been far more Barry Zitos and Denny Nagles than there have been Tom Glavines and Greg Madduxes.

But good luck with Burnett and Sabathia. Sabathia will break down with his weight and Burnett will just break down.

CC will pitch all the way through his contract and they don’t need Burnett for more than two or three years.

So what is this going to do for the Yankees when Sabathia and Burnett are on the disabled list? Neither one looks like pitchers who can actually pitch all the way through their contracts.

And that A-Rod signing has really delivered big time for the Yanks doncha think?

$180mm. How does this signing impinge on the farm system? It’s not going to block the advancement of any prominent minor league talent, with the possible exception of the very young Jesus Montero, currently a catcher.
What the Yankees have nearly ready in the minors are a slew of pitchers and an outfielder or two.
The signings will allow for the development of young players without the NY angst over every setback.
Or maybe , my fantasy favorite, trade for Bedard and then send him and more pitching to Texas for Josh Hamilton.
That would put the Sox back where they belong.

Cashman is the worst GM in baseball. Highest payroll in MLB and he has to buy every top free agent to completely overhaul the team.
