Both Chuck Todd at NBC and the New York Times are reporting Leon Panetta, a former member of President Bush’s commission on WMD intelligence the Iraq Study Group [see what happens when you write too fast?] who doesn’t have much more of an intelligence background, will head CIA. As was pointed out elsewhere, Poppy Bush didn’t have much intelligence background when he headed the CIA, did he?
Speaking of things people don’t see coming, nobody seems to be aware that the massive, thorough investigation into the Hariri assassination is due to report later this month, or of the massive shitstorm this could unleash in the first weeks of the Obama administration.
Seriously, unless it turns out aliens were involved, Syria is about to get fingered for a string of assassinations on foreign soil. Many of which were prompted by their dislike of people looking into their previous assassinations. You’d suspect their reaction to the findings might be a little more intense.
