Spencer, I don’t know if you’ve seen it but Achmadinejad is being quoted in a FARS story as being unhappy with the selection of Dennis Ross to oversee relations with Iran.
The Iranian preisdent feels that the selection should have been made after consulting with the Iranians, if not directly, then through the Iranian community centered in California. The CA Iranians are said to favor Daryl Gates, who they feel understands Iranian cultural sensitivities.
I’ll see if I can find the FARSE link.

Mr. Carter’s comments were not unreasonable. They were a bit slanted; Israel’s shooting at people digging a tunnel is mentioned as a break in the truce without noting any violations from the other side. He calls the tunnel “defensive” and one might ask why he does.
He, of course, emphases that the closing of border crossing is creating horrible suffering for the Gazans and this suffering must be paramount in any consideration of the problem. He does not mention all the negotiations that established procedures for those crossings or why they no longer are in effect.

Did you read the oped from President Carter in today’s WaPo and if so what did you think?

I thought it was pretty straight forward and truthful but I have a feeling the wingers are gonna be on his ass big time.
