Via Idolator’s Lucas Jensen, it appears that people on the internet are having fun with an inexplicable Microsoft music program called Songsmith, which explains itself like this:
Just open up Songsmith, choose from one of thirty different musical styles, and press record. Sing whatever you like – a birthday song for Mom, a love song for that special someone (they’ll be impressed that you wrote a song for them!), or maybe just try playing with your favorite pop songs. As soon as you press “stop”, Songsmith will generate musical accompaniment to match your voice, and play back your song for you. It’s that simple.
Hmm, you think, that doesn’t sound ‘inexplicable’ at all. That sounds instead like something to play around with. Doesn’t it kind of mean that the Songsmith robots will pick music out for me, making algorithimic judgments about my musical essence? Understandable! But look at the results. This is what Songsmith does with David Lee Roth’s vocals on "Runnin’ With The Devil." I can’t seem to embed this brilliant Metafilter creation, so you’ll have to trust me and click through.

OMFG. I swear, I owe you a bitchslap for scarring my auditory system without adequate warning.
Although I guess I could have expected this result; apparently you missed MSFT’s craptastic promotion of Songsmith — an app for PC’s only — mock-demoed on a Apple. What you see (or expect to hear) is clearly not what you get.
I now hate you.
