Later today, President Obama’s going to give a speech at Camp Lejeuene announcing his troop drawdown plan. Basically, it’s a fixed timetable for withdrawing combat troops by August 2010, the exact sort of thing that George Bush and John McCain used to say was the height of irresponsibility. But here’s what Obama’s old presidential rival thinks about the plan, according to the New York Times:
Mr. McCain said during the private White House meeting that he thought the withdrawal plan was thoughtful and well prepared, according to several people who were in the room. His spokeswoman, Brooke Buchanan, confirmed by e-mail on Thursday night that Mr. McCain is “supportive of the plan.”
The Iraq debate is over.

“The Iraq debate is over.”
Nope. There’s still the debate over whether we really, really men the SOFA to be had.
But up next is Afghanistan – and McCain’s the point man for the AEI as they push to keep the war there’s aims as broad as possible.
