If it’s Friday late-afternoon, then the ACLU must have discovered something bad about the Bush administration. In this case: the CIA destroyed 12 videotapes that display "enhanced interrogation techniques." The picture accompanying this post is from a Justice Department filing in a New York federal court that inventories what was on 92 destroyed videotapes detailing the interrogation of two detainees alleged to be al-Qaeda affiliates. You may notice that it’s almost all redacted.

This is from the ACLU’s Amrit Singh:

"The government is needlessly withholding information about these tapes from the public, despite the fact that the CIA’s use of torture — including waterboarding — is no secret… This new information only underscores the need for full and immediate disclosure of the CIA’s illegal interrogation methods. The time has come for the CIA to be held accountable for flouting the rule of law."

What did the redactions conceal? This quote by a CIA instructor: "Hurm. Just give me time and man’s index finger. Will get information. Never compromise. Even in face of armageddon. Never compromise."
