Much as I’m a sucker for Hood Internet mashups, the basic conceit often has an uncomfortable racial subtext: black people and white people! On each other’s music! Canary-diamond chains and sweater-vest-iture! You get the idea. But this dead prez/Grizzly Bear really elevates both tracks. dead prez’s "bigger than hip-hop" refrain — possibly what they’re most widely known for — benefits from the addition of its unlikely guest musicians, and Grizzly Bear’s dragging, snare-heavy beat has been searching for an anthem that dead prez provides. This is how it’s done.
