What was yesterday circulating through the Arabic-language press has now been confirmed by Human Rights Watch, according to The Washington Post. According to a release put out by the group last night, a researcher talked to the al-Qaeda non-link between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden barely two weeks ago:
Human Rights Watch briefly met with al-Libi on April 27 during a research mission to Libya. He refused to be interviewed, and would say nothing more than: “Where were you when I was being tortured in American jails.” Human Rights Watch has strongly condemned the CIA’s detention program and documented how detainees in CIA custody were abused, but, like other human rights groups, was never granted access to prisoners in CIA custody.
HRW’s conclusion:
“The death of Ibn al-Sheikh al-Libi means that the world will never hear his account of the brutal torture he experienced,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “So now it is up to Libya and the United States to reveal the full story of what they know, including its impact on his mental health.”
Bwahahahahahaha! Oh, you were serious about that? Good luck establishing the commission.

Spencer,
You already know that I really respect that you have worked on this topic in the past and have linked to it at my own site (http://www.regimeofterror.com) but it’s important to know that al Libi’s testimony that Zarqawi and high ranking Egyptian Islamic Jihaid members (EIJ was formally linked with al Qaeda at that point) were in Baghdad long before the war which turned out to be true. George Tenet said that the CIA was split on some of al Libi’s testimony.
Regarding the interrogations techniques that al Libi did or did not go through I don’t recall seeing him listed among those who was put through EIT though I wouldn’t doubt the public list is only a partial one.
Spencer,
It may have been Zubaydah that said that stuff and not al Libi. I will check.
