Joe Biden is still on Meet The Press, but now he’s arguing with David Gregory about the economy, so it’s safe to blog about what he said about Iran. The Obama administration inches a bit forward in its reaction to the stolen election: whereas yesterday Robert Gibbs talked about monitoring the situation and checking out reports of "irregularities," Biden said that there’s "some real doubt" that Ahmedinejad won. He said the alleged demographic breakdown of the vote across the country made it difficult to credit the stated out come. "But I’m getting ahead of myself," he said, saying there needed to be "analysis, not just by us but every country in the world."
No matter what the outcome turns out to be, the administration’s outreach to Iran will continue, Biden said, since "talks with Iran are not a reward for good behavior." Obama has made the judgment that diplomacy with Iran is in the national interest, and "that judgment remains the same." The administration is already involved in the P-5 Plus One process over the nuclear question, and Biden started to say that "if there are talks, it’s something gonna be done with the regime, not the president," but Gregory talked over him.
So this is the Day-Two position from the administration: doubting the stated result of the Iranian election, but not making affirmative statements to get involved in the dispute.
Update: David Gregory is parroting Charles Krauthammer’s idiotic line that Obama is "only" making "unconditional" demands of Israel and no other country. Biden, looking like he’s dealing with a child throwing a temper tantrum, says that Obama said in Cairo "we are unconditionally tied to Israel, Israel’s security is our security. We’re not distancing ourselves from Israel." Said that the Obama administration has made unconditional demands of the Palestinians to stop terrorism and respect Israel’s security and for the Arab states to stop incitement against Israel.

Typical of the right wing: THEY LISTEN WITH THEIR FINGERS IN THEIR EARS AND THEY SEE WITH THEIR HANDS OVER THEIR EYES. They’re pathetic whether it’s David Gregory talking over the truth or Charles Krauthammer saying nothing positive was said about Israel by President Obama, even though the rest of us heard it said clearly.
Why is David Gregory on TV? He not only is boring but he seems to know nothing. And Charles K. has always been a tad nuts. The networks just don’t get it at all.
Aw, quit picking on poor David Gregory. His height suggests he probably has pretty big feet, but as we’ve been reminded ad nauseum by NBC on what is evidently the anniversary of Tim Russert’s death, Gregory has “big shoes to fill.” Personally, I never thought Russert was as good an interviewer as, say, Katie Couric, but I’ll own that Gregory is abysmal. I don’t know where all these NBC geniuses went to
journalismcommunications school, but wherever it was, they don’t teach follow-up questions. The Constant Weader at http://www.RealityChex.com
Well, one thing is for sure….the truth will set us free and it’s the right wingers who are trying to suppress the truth, because they can’t handle the truth. As stated by Bassface on FDL recently, “Ironic.. the difference between ‘Evolution’ and ‘Revolution’ is the ‘R’. and the ‘R’ seems to be self-destructing”. How true!
Fixed it for you
Read somewhere last week that the ratings for Meet the Press were going down fast.
Can’t imagine why s/
Why, David Gregory and Karl Rove always dance to the same fiddler:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdvHwtRdg_I
Nearly all of the interviewers in MSM approach their interviews with an agenda and the agenda is to prove their points. If it means walking over their interviewees, ignoring their answers or asking stupid questions etc. so be it.
It is drivel like this that has reduced me to watching these shows in 3 minute increments, because after about 3 minutes, the crazy starts.
There will be no peace in the middle east until the settlements issue is resolved, and Israel has to accept that.
Period.
The end.
No amount of bloviating on these shows by “Disco” David Gregory, Krauthammer, or anyone else is gonna change that.
The beltway loves pretending every issue is a Rubik’s Cube that we must go slowly to solve, when most issues have pretty straightforward answers.
This is because they’re all raking in the cash under the status quo (not to mention having wonderful dinner parties!)
Actual reporting would involve tough questions, working late and/or weekends, and might offend someone’s senibilities.
Take health care. Single payer is the best option.
Ok, next problem?
The problem is getting the participants to act like adults instead of petulant children (or greedy, self interested SOB’s) while working on the solutions.
If I’m not mistaken, Gregory rapping with Rove caused so much excitement for him, he had to be removed via a stretcher sporting a full erection! Another very embarrassing night for the right wingers.
Remember how insane and loony Joe Scarborough was getting in his hatred of liberals? Now look at him. Someone says to him, “You know Joe, you could be the voice of conservatives and many would like to see you run for president” (paraphrasing but it was said), and the next thing we know he’s downed a ton of drugs and he talks in a monotone voice now. He is now playing the role of “sane conservative”, even though, we all know he’s no different than Billo! Insanity watching these scary people act out on our televisions!
I was thinking seriously about what to have for Breakfast but have decided to wait after that picture in
my head. “g”
There will be no peace in the middle east until Israel withdraws to its pre-67 borders as required by UN Resolution – I forgot the number. And, I would add, pays damages for property taken and destroyed.
Before the Internet they got to pretend that the rest of us didn’t hear it clearly. No wonder they all screed against the Internet, as TexBetsy noted re Goodman.
If it takes two stretcher bearers to support his erection I think we can safely conclude that part of the reason Gregory is such an abysmal interviewer is lack of blood-flow to his brain.
The medication and sarcasm helps him hide the fact he’s just as nuts as the rest.
And as for POTUS aspirations, that untidy business of the dead intern in his office won’t allow that to gather any momentum.
Thankfully.
‘Family values’, yeah right.
Applause.
I kinda wish I hadn’t seen what I just saw
that was plain creepy
Does anyone remember Iran’s reaction when Bush and the Supremes stole the ‘00 election from Al Gore? I don’t.
The only thing that can make the situation worse in Iran now is the United States’ publicly taking a position on the validity of the election. The Iranians should be given the chance to have to deal with that on their own without self-righteous hypocrisy. And my guess is that there will be significant if not profound (perhaps initially muted) reactions to the shenanigans.
Thanks, Spencer for watching…I stopped long ago. Disco Dave would do better as fill-in for Billy Bush. No insult meant to Billy Bush.
Thanks!
Well, no surprise here. Going all the way back to the time of the Iran/Iraq war and its aftermath, there have been groups who did not favor the revolution. There was a bombing that took out almost the entire elected govt-at the time there was more than a little speculation that the revolution had done the bombing to get rid of a meddlesome govt that was sticking its nose into places it shouldn’t. There were some who insisted it was the work of the CIA, which it was not. This is going back quite a few years but..nope, can’t remember if they ever “caught” the bombers. Again going back in memory only I can’t even remember if it was during or after the war.
The extreme hatred that Iran felt for Iraq and the chance to get rid of Saddam without any fingerprints of Iran showing up, was, I believe, the reason that Iran got the Ahmed Chalabi-an Iranian agent of influence- group going in with its stories-WMD, bioterror weapons, nukes, missiles etc.- tailored for bush and the neocons. Who jumped at the bait like starving fish. bush swallowed the bait and was then played. All the stories-with others in the loose knit group confirming-pushed bush in the direction that Iran wanted.(I believe one of the greatest intel ops ever)
Who is the winner in the US invasion of Iraq? Iran, because they got rid of Saddam and got a Shia govt in Iraq led by close friends of Iran.
Which leads me to say that the religious leaders, fearing the young people would vote out the revolution-the majority of people in Iran now being under 30(due to so many dying in the war with Iraq)-because the youth do not have the same religious fervor that the older generation that kicked out the american puppet shah and installed the religious leadership had. They saw the polls, they understood that they could not declare any more candidates simply inelgible to hold office, like they did in the last election. So this time they rather ham handedly just made Ahmadinejad the winner. ooops. The young voters are now raising hell, so the revolutionary guard and the religious police will just go out and break heads to put the voters back in their place. However, IMO, the fact that the rulers did in fact steal the election will have far ranging repercussions, the young might(will) get beaten down this time, however they are now painfully aware that they are in a very strict police state, religious police state but still. The anger among the young will not dissipate, it will go underground and quite possibly merge with remnants of the group who attempted to kill off the govt and the religious leaders-the real heads of govt- all those years ago and go back to an underground war against the govt. Time will tell, but if they(govt) are able to crush the current antigovt forces-not yet an insurrection but close-then the govt will have to become an open police state. There has been a sham democracy in place for a few years now, but it is now out in the open. Only those candidaes approved by the religious leaders will be able to run and the results will be known far in advance of the election. One advantage that the antigovt forces have is that the current police state is very corrupt and the religious police(minders of the faith) are fanatics. Interesting times ahead.
Kudos to you Spencer for having to sit through Gregory’s MTP.But what a laugher,Americans talking about FAIR elections.
The election in Iran isn’t about America. The sooner American politicians learn that anything they say about the situation will likely be used against American interests, the better. Just STFU.
Oh, and David Gregory, this means you too!
Teddy, that’s like saying Britain wasn’t an issue when we elected Washington. Sure, they’ve got all sorts of domestic concerns, but people, even foreign people, are capable of being worried about multiple divergent issues simultaneously. But what American politicians aren’t being coy about these results?

And you know this…How?]Tim: We know how the CIA operates and we know how they are behind the student unrest.
The only way Biden or Hillary Clinton could know the results of the Iranian elections is if they had agents at every polling place in Iran. They didn’t. Amadinijad won and all you are doing is trying to convince everyone they stole the elections like in Ukraine or in Serbia or in Mexico.
The US Black Ops guys can target the young and fill their heads up with any kind of crap about stolen elections but it doesn’t wash. You can broadcast over Iranian television and radio and use the internet to fill their heads up with junk but there are lots of Iranians that wont forget that it was Ronnie Regun and the CIA that waged war on Iran and sicked Sadam Hussein on them. You killed millions of their people. They won’t forget that you siezed all of their assets and they wont forget the army you set up in Iraq for black operations against the Iranian nation. This is why the reform guy lost. The iranian people won’t forget how rotten you were.
The US expects that threats from Israel to nuke it or threats from the US to pose sanctions everytime she tries to start her nuclear electric plant at Bushehr is going to stop her…its just raw evidence of America’s bully like tactics. And, it is evidence of America’s duplicity and criminality.
Our newspapers pretend that the opposition is a Reform Party candidate. This is US propoganda because they have already reformed themselves from you. The People of Iran know that you planted discontent into the students. They know that you routinely use the young in many countries by lying to them and telling them that the winner “robbed” the election. They know that you are behind the riots and trouble. But they will get over it. They know that you lie about everything. Iran has already told you that there are precondition? So, how come you haven’t given them back their stolen property and stopped threatening them with war?
Here in America, 3rd parties couldn’t get airtime, were not included in the debates, and couldn’t even pay for Ads in newspapers. They had no voice whatsoever. If Biden or Clinton is concerned about Iranian citizens why did she or nobody in this country speak up for third parties. Why did we get GW Bush or AMBUSH? Their is nothing fair about our elections but these people claim they are concerned about someone else’s election process.
As for those bombings in Iran in the early 80’s, they killed off several governments, not just one time. Did you forget those other times? They found out that Bani Sadr was like Chalabi…a puppet.
Go with the tricyclics.
The conflict started way before the settlements. And even a total ethnic cleansing of the settlements would not put an end to the wars.
But a peace treaty might adjust the settlements and end the wars. Or it might lead to a bigger war, later.
