Context matters, true, but in an elemental sense, a degree of credit belongs to those who do things in spite of what they know to be the consequences. It doesn’t excuse bad behavior. It recognizes premeditated super-ugliness for what it is: brazen, obvious, unconcerned. It smirks when it knows it should apologize. To that end, a few notes.
1. As of Tuesday, Jay-Z is selling "Death Of Autotune" on iTunes. Justice demands the observation that a crucial component of the very first couplet of the song — its mission statement — is "this ain’t for iTunes." Reality demands acknowledging that Jay-Z is laughing at anyone making that observation.
2. This actually isn’t at all a case like the above, but: Complex, the only non-food-related-magazine I will consistently purchase, really ought to address the topic of Michael Jackson’s death, given that its cover photo shoot is Jonah Hill as MJ.

Cmon man, you gotta admit you liked the song. The shit was hot, whether you think he was taking shots at the young bucks or not.
Who benefits the most because of Jacko’s death? Blanket? Papa Joe? Tito?
None of the above. Mark Sanford. Off the front page.
The song isn’t just good, it’s great. I think I posted that when it came out. I’m just talking about the marketing campaign.
Khamenei & Ahmadinejad.
