The Aus-Rotten-ification of Afghanistan proceeds, as CNN says 52 percent of respondents in a new poll say Afghanistan has become “another Vietnam.” Length-wise, they’re certainly right. If the “real war” part of the U.S. involvement in Vietnam was 1965 to 1973, then we’ve matched it, as the war entered its ninth year last week. More CNN:

According to the poll, 59 percent of people questioned opposed sending more U.S. troops to Afghanistan with 39 percent in favor. Of the 59 percent opposed, 28 percent want Washington to withdraw all U.S troops, 21 percent are calling for a partial American pullout, and 8 percent say the number of troops should remain the same.

Opposition to a second troop deployment order this year is high. Within that cohort, support for full withdrawal is a plurality. The contradictions heighten. Steve Biddle: the poll vindicates you!
