This is a really unbelievable display of disrespect, conveyed in a new Joe Klein piece:
The Israelis have been difficult, as always: whenever Mitchell raises East Jerusalem in talks with the Israeli Foreign Minister, the Israeli stands up and walks out of the room.
Can you believe that shit! Here’s the fucking U.S. special envoy, an emissary of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, discussing what everyone knows will have to be a subject of a final-status negotiation — for more on that, substantively, see this Angel Duss post – and the Israeli foreign minister, like a toddler, gets cranky and huffs out! Routinely! And Mitchell, like a bitch, takes it!
The first thing my mind turns to is Young Jeezy’s recent Complex interview.
Does your situation with DJ Drama—
Young Jeezy: Man, I would never talk about that in my Complex Magazine interview, are you crazy? [Laughs.] No more light. Fight is over.
No more light.
Young Jeezy: Grown, baby, we moving on. I ain’t really no nigga to search for attention or do shit to get attention. I never mentioned niggas’ names, or said anything about anything throughout my career to get no cool points—I just mind my business. But at the same time, I’m a man first. If I feel offended, I’ma speak on it. Like you, you’re not gonna be walking along and a motherfucker just say something crazy to you in the middle of Manhattan and you gonna just keep it moving? You’re gonna say your piece or what? [Laughs.]
Someone needs to print out and slip this interview into Mitchell’s briefing package the next time he shuttles to Tel Aviv. Avigdor Lieberman is not going to respect Mitchell if Mitchell allows himself to be disrespected, and the Israelis are not going to respect the Obama administration if it can disrespect it without consequence.

Well, heck, I don’t respect George Mitchell, why should Bibi Netanyahu. All of Jerusalem, undivided is Israel’s God Given right, not subject to human negotiation. And no amount of Obama pressure can change it.
Okay, I agree with your sentiment (I nominate Henry Allen to be our next ambassador to Israel), but your comparison to Young Jeezy is nonsense and that quote from him is gibberish and provides little to no help to Special Envoy Mitchell. I know you try to present a hyper-masculine image with this blog, with the rather aggressive masthead and what have you, but I’m going to go in an entirely different direction and reference something effete and nerdy: science fiction.
You see, a more accurate lesson could be drawn from an episode of Star Trek: TNG that reran yesterday. It was “Chain of Command,” one of the better episodes of television I’ve seen and certainly one of the best Star Trek episodes ever made. Not only does it have one of the most thoughtful and realistic treatments of torture in television history (cable news or dramatic programming), but there is a scene where a Starfleet captain, Jellico, is about to open negotiations with a Cardassian (Lieberman is a Cardassian, for sure). After the Cardassian beams aboard to begin diplomatic talks, Capt. Jellico has him taken to the Observation Deck and then waits an hour before meeting him in order to establish his dominance. That (or something equivalent) is what Mitchell needs to do.
So, you make a lame Young Jeezy comparison and I counter with a slightly-less-lame Star Trek reference. That makes it your move, Mr. Ackerman.
Lebensraum is your motto, I see.
Israel’s rightful borders are past the Golan in Syria, the entire West Bank and Gaza and the Negev to Aqaba. They were granted more by History but have agreed to return the Sinai by peace treaty…
My move? I think we can shake hands on your analogy. I’m trying to think of some comic-book parallel, so I may return to this thread.
Also, to the troll: you need to drink a glass of your own urine.
Ooh, a comic book reference would be hard to beat. You’d have to find some kind of Lord of the Rings fan-fiction to cite, which in turn could only be out-nerded with a Paultard/World of Warcraft slash-fiction reference and nobody wants that. I guess you’re right and we should stick to what we have.
@geezer
So that’s a yes?
