The only reason Andy McCarthy is ever listened to at all is because he happened to be a federal prosecutor in New York when the Justice Department indicted the Blind Sheikh, Omar Abdul Rahman. Since then, McCarthy has engaged in such careful works of scholarship as co-signing for the fever-dream that Bill Ayers wrote Barack Obama’s memoir. (“It is thorough, thoughtful, and alarming — particularly his deconstruction of the text in Obama’s memoir and comparison to the themes, sophistication and signature phraseology of Bill Ayers’ memoir.”) What is obvious in retrospect is that Rahman was so obviously guilty that even a braying fool like McCarthy could secure his conviction. On this the man’s reputation is based.

So dude wrote something about Eric Holder’s Judiciary Committee testimony that a lot of people read. And first Adam Serwer bludgeons it to death. Then he resuscitates it, has a zombie bite it, watches it gurgle and emerge as a zombie itself, and then fires a shotgun shell into its brain, spattering blood and cartilage throughout the blogosphere, and finally he revs a chainsaw to dismember the remains before achieving a peaceful silence.
