My Washington Independent colleague Dave Weigel, by coincidence, is headed to Capitol Hill to watch a bunch of misled defenders of plutocracy proclaim that they’d rather symbolically die than raise the top marginal income tax rate back to its 2000 levels or expand health insurance coverage for millions of their most vulnerable fellow citizens. The war tax may be dead for the moment and Josh Rogin may chide me for my inability to get over it, but via Starbuck, I see this amazing cartoon from 1943 about one’s patriotic duty to pay taxes to fund the wars the country decides must be fought. “I can’t believe it takes Disney to speak common sense,” Starbuck writes.
