Because why not, really. James F. Hoge Jr.  is stepping down. And if there’s one place in American Letters where the gates have throughly not been crashed, it’s the august establishmentarian hub of global squarebound ponderousness. Here’s what to do:

CFR Co-Chairs Carla A. Hills and Robert E. Rubin announced the formation of an independent search committee for the next editor of Foreign Affairs. The committee will be led by CFR Board member and Harvard University professor Martin S. Feldstein, who also chairs the Foreign Affairs Advisory Board. Remember, if you don’t apply, then the journal is just going to bless the next Iraq War the next time hysteria hits the Very Serious People. You think I’m kidding, but really, the expert class needs to acquaint itself more thoroughly with the unwashed masses. Foreign policy in a democracy — seriously; or should I say, Seriously — needs a democratic foundation, even as we respect that there’s a real place for genuine expertise that ought to be balanced with such a foundation. Otherwise no foreign policy, and no Foreign Affair, is sustainable. So apply.
