More from Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi/Abu Dujaanah al-Khorasani’s “martyrdom” interview. Thomas Hegghammer — the terrorism analyst with the most metal of names — notes a kind of crazy claim Balawi makes that I just skipped over as crazy: in this guy’s telling, the Jordanian intelligence service actually killed Abdullah Azzam, the legendary Palestinian organizer of the anti-Soviet extremist campaign in Afghanistan. Hegghammer is puzzled:
The biggest problem I have with this claim is that I don’t see why Jordanian intelligence would have wanted to take out Azzam in 1989. Azzam neither organized nor called for militant activity against the Jordanian regime at the time.
But that’s not all! Balawi/Khorosani also claims that Jordanian intelligence killed freaking Imad Mugniyeh in 2008, the terrorist-par-excellence whom Balawi/Khorosani describes as “the military chief of Rejectionist Shiite Hezbollah” because you can’t inadvertently suggest that a Shiite organization might have some legitimate claim to Islamic faith. You might ask yourself why the Jordanians would give a shit about Mugniyeh or Azzam. Dude has an answer!
What interest was there for the criminal Ali Burjaq, when he was a low-ranking officer, in overseeing the murder of Abdullah Azzam? And what interest is there for Jordanian intelligence in killing Imad Mughniyah, the military chief of Rejectionist Shiite Hezbollah? What’s the connection between this and that? It is the interest of America. They are America’s dogs, and whenever we would give them some made-up piece of information, they would be thrilled with it and rush to share it with the Americans.
So the Jordanians can touch anyone they want. Except for, like, Usama bin Laden, because they, uh, uncharacteristically miscalculated and relied on the cunning, wily, conniving Abu Dujaanah al-Khorasani! Muhuahahahaha…
See, it’s stuff like this that makes me excited to see Khalid Shaikh Mohammed get even the opportunity to say anything in open court before a judge shuts him up. These guys open their mouths and say the most patently implausible stuff that it discredits them instantly. I am not afraid of these people and I’d like to help them destroy themselves.
