Ezra Klein has some fun with Lindsey Graham’s health-care-dare. (“‘If they jam through health care,’ said Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, then Democrats will have ‘poisoned the well’ on other issues…’”)

The thing about Graham is this: other GOPers can pull the trigger on Permanent Obstructionism, but he can’t. He’s the guy who wants Rahm Emanuel to think is trustworthy and operating in good faith. If Graham declares the well poisoned, then the White House can just say: Sigh, well, we tried, but now we go forward with the civilian trial of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. Your objections to it were groundless, by the way. And we’ll close Guantanamo Bay through the Afghanistan quasi-supplemental as planned. Go ahead, vote against the Afghanistan war, hippie.

Graham would lose all his dealmaker leverage if he said there are no more deals to be made. So why not use that against him? Grab the hijacker’s gun and turn it back on him.
