The U.S.-Israel military-to-military bonds are strong as ever, Robert Gates said at a press conference this morning. He wants people to stop acting like what the right is calling “linkage” is controversial. “The U.S. has considered peace in the Middle East to be a national security interest for decades,” Gates said at a press conference this morning. “The lack of progress toward Middle East peace clearly is an issue that is exploited by our adversaries in the region, and is a source of, certainly, political challenges.”
Gates is the most real-talk defense secretary the U.S. has ever had. If people want to go after him for his egregious embrace of common sense and his impertinent dissatisfaction with euphemism, they can try their best…

Just wait until Hannity, Cheney and the rest of the circus clowns start putting Gates on the apologize for America bus tour. According to those bozo’s, the good things America and it’s allies have done in our past supersede all bad things America and its allies have done and the rest of the world should view it that way also.
Peace in the Middle East is also a national security interest of Israel, the Arabs, and the Iranians.
People and nations, though, are willing to take risks for things they believe in; This includes the Israelis, the Arabs, the Iranians and the Americans.
Somehow, though, all of those nations keep risking and losing lives for things that only their most radical members believe in.
