Every DC Metro rider is familiar with how defense companies blanket the place in ads for their latest appropriation-ready swag, and Andrew Exum snaps this appalling photograph of Northrup Grumman peddling their eyes-in-the-sky tech through a victory of a bombed out apartment complex. (Or something — the caption doesn’t really make much sense given the tag for Northrup Grumman’s ISR [intelligence/surveillance/reconnaissance].) U.S. forces that do what the ad encourages will, at the least, receive international scorn, as will their civilian leadership. But hey, act now — yours for only $15 billion over 5 years (actual cost and delivery times may vary).

Worse, the ad was placed on the House side of the Metro, according to Abu Muqawama, meaning that Northrup Grumman thinks a smart path to keeping legislators on board with its programs is to show the scenes of smoldering civilian aftermath. And given all they spend on lobbyists, I’m hardly in a position to second-guess them.
