Saw Titus Andronicus play at St. Stephens on Friday night. Easily the best show I’ve seen so far in 2010. Passion, ethics, vision. Anthems for your identification and for your sloganeering. Accordingly, I saw the young and the old screaming out lyrics to songs from The Monitor that have been available for barely a month. (It’s a great record, and actually it’s everything I want from punk rock right now.)
In a weird way, it made me happy that they’re there for the kids today. Titus Andronicus are part of a tradition that has stalked punk rock from the beginning. In the 90s it was Avail. In the 00s it was Against Me. Now it’s them. Someone needs to hoist the standard and slit throats.
Plus they write lyrics as if they want to be featured in my headlines.

I got to see them when they opened for Ted Leo when he was on tour last spring and came away impressed. They almost rocked as hard as Ted and that is saying something.
Jealous. I love the album and was hoping to catch this show. Hopefully they’ll be back soon.
Oh it was so rad. Sold out, so we did the punk thing and licked the backs of our hands before rubbing them against someone’s stamped hand. (I still donated $10 to Positive Force, for the record.)
