So reports the Independent:
The key, he said, was an agreement to change from a situation in which Israel operates a limited list of permitted goods allowed through border crossings into Gaza, to a prohibited list of goods – weapons and “combat material” – which are not.
“After my talks (with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu), there is now in principle a commitment by Israel to move to such a list,” he said.
Seeing is believing.

Hmm…you should expect Labour MPs to be a lot less acquiescent to Bibi in the event that David Miliband does not win the leadership struggle in the Labour Party*, and the Tory & Lib Dem coalition is already far less so than the previous government. So I can understand why Israel is tightening on access.
* Is a bit of democracy in the UK’s centre-left party a little too much to ask for?
Ignorant question: what’s Miliband’s take on Bibi/Gaza? In other words, what are the stakes for UK-Israel relations in the immediate term of the Labour leadership race? Basically, after Miliband ceased being Foreign Secretary, I ceased paying much mind to Miliband.
Not sure. Probably doesn’t mean much for you or anyone else in the US.
But, just perhaps, that given a stronger party system, if the right-wing faction is ousted in leadership elections, then some MPs may feel less pressure to show deference to the Israeli government. Hopefully, this would lead to more vigorous debate by the Opposition in the House of Commons, and shift policy a little bit.
The Lib Dems are fairly anti-Israel, so interested parties should be watching for tension between William Hague and Lib Dem cabinet ministers on a variety of foreign policy issues.
However, after I posted the above comment, what I did not expect is that Mili-D would himself adopt a position matching the sentiment of the party base in the run up to the leadership election.
Spencer: The liberals have been very critical, and one of their election-stunts were several condemnations of Israel, in a language the two other perties couldnt match with their financial structure. So they have a bit of that element, the British Royal Freaking Navy has offered to patrol Gaza.
P.S.: Ooops, unless I be read as a hysteric anti-semite: I hope its kosher to analyze the patterns of financial contributions to the leading parties and cross-reference w their political ways of acting in real life. I dont believe in a big conspiracy , but I accept the existence of hundreds and hundreds of small ones ;-)
