Obviously, that’s a problematic construction and not one to take seriously. Still, while this Christian Science Monitor story labors under the heavy freight of that framework, it adds a note of basic maturity to the Park51 pseudocontroversy: Adults look at the manufactured outrage and ask: Seriously, America? This is what you’re reduced to? And then they say things like this:
“Senegalese go to America because in America, they can have their rights respected, and their freedom of movement to be entrepreneurs,” he says. “It’s not like in France, where you can be asked for your papers wherever you go.”
Husband that, America! It’s a national security asset. Don’t turn away from it because of an ignorant conflation between bin Ladenism and Islam. Meanwhile, here’s Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf in his own words.

Great post, Spencer. Way to attempt to convince America to wake up, grow up!

Gotta watch out for those terrists who swim across the Niagara River. (Disclosure, I swam in a 3-mile ‘race’ in the Niagara River as a teen, but it was from somewhere near Buffalo to Grand Island, also U.S.)

I’m sincerely shocked by this, thanks for linking to it. Having been out of the country for more than a decade, I’d never thought I’d see this sort of thing.
