I’m waiting on the Pentagon leadership to begin an imminent press conference on the DADT survey, but until that starts, check out this argument from Sen. Lindsey Graham this weekend:
“This is a political promise made by Senator Obama when he was running for president,” said Graham, during an appearance on Fox News Sunday. “There is no groundswell of opposition to Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell coming from our military. This is all politics…”
That’s one way of putting it. Another is that Obama ran for president on a platform that included overturning the open-gay-service ban and won in a landslide. A wag might also note that repeal is an overwhelmingly popular measure. And such a wag might further note that Graham is accordingly defining any civilian policy-making role in military affairs as unacceptably “political” if it doesn’t emerge from servicemember ranks. It’s hard to believe he actually believes that, given reflection. Anyway, on to the presser.
