On Mike Scheuer

This is all Washington Independent stuff, but I wrote a post about Mike Scheuer — former chief of CIA’s Usama bin Laden Unit — seeming to say that another 9/11 might somehow wake America up to present dangers. Mike ended up replying in comments, so I posted his reply and reacted to it a bit. I’m trying not to construct any straw men, and it’s always a tough balance between — as Adam Serwer tweeted — warning of an attack and wishing for one. For a very long time, liberals were accused of wishing for defeat in Iraq by recognizing that the invasion/occupation was a no-win situation. Maybe Scheuer’s not exactly in that situation, but it’s kind of close, from my perspective. Adam thinks I’m being too charitable to Mike. You decide.
